A first dance recital is a huge deal for a little dancer. She’s been practicing for it for months and will finally be able to show off those routines. If you want to make the day extra special for her, here are some suggestions.

Put an ad in your local newspaper telling her how proud you are of her, or how excited you are to watch her dance. Many newspapers have ad space for birthdays, engagements, or other special events for a relatively affordable price. Wishing them luck publicly is a fun way to make it special.

Bring flowers with you to their performance. You can make it a surprise by having a sibling or family member grab them from the car after your dancer is with the rest of her classmates. Flowers are beautiful and are a very appropriate gift for a first dance performance.

Video tape her during her performance. Many of the larger dance recitals sell a DVD of the performance for parents, but video taping it yourself is more fun for family because you can really focus in on your dancer and single her out. It also allows you to post the videos online on YouTube or your blog to show your friends and family, without having to deal with copyright infringement.

Let your family and friends know about her first performance. The invitations can be as fancy or moderate as you would like. You can send written invitations, an email, or even express the invitation over the phone.

If you are into scrap-booking and blogging, this is a definite note worthy event. Take plenty of pictures before and after the performance. Have your autograph the program and use it for scrap-booking purposes.

Plan an After-Recital party at your home. Decorate the home with banners with your dancer’s name on it and decorate with a dancing theme. You can find dance-shaped cookie cutters online, such as at Country Kitchen Sweetart.

Your daughter deserves to be treated special on her big day. By putting forth a little extra effort you will be surprised at how far it will reach. Your daughter will love that you’ve made her feel like a queen for the day.
