There are different types of child gates available to suit your requirements and all of them are intended to be used only by children from 6 to 24 months and not older.
Based on the installation procedure adopted for child safety gates, it can be classified into two types. They are pressure mounted and hardware mounted. It is very essential for the parents to know about the benefits offered by both of these gates and choose the right one for their child.
Gates – Pressure Mounted
This type of child safety gates are held in place by pressure against walls or door frames. Typically, pressure mounted gates come with two sliding panels that can be adjusted to make the gate fit an opening and some kind of locking mechanism, like a pressure bar holds the gate in place without any hardware.
These types of gates usually have vertical slats made of aluminum, steel or wood with rails at the top and bottom.
The installation of these gates is very easy and simple and does not create any permanent holes as there is no drilling in the walls. All you need to do with the gate is slightly adjust it and press the locking device against the door frames or walls which will keep the gate in its place.
Pressure mounted child safety gates are suitable for places like between rooms that have floors at the same level or at the bottom of the stairs which are less hazardous. It is strongly advised not to use these gates on top of the stairs.
Hardware mounted gates
These gates are usually more permanent because they are fixed to a metal knob behind door frames or walls with the help of screws and brackets. A proper fixing of these gates offers the highest security in protecting your child from entering into any hazardous areas.
These gates are usually made using steel that is enamel-coated, aluminum or wooden vertical slates that has rails both at the bottom and on top.
The installation of these gates requires some ability of drilling holes to secure the gates in its place. If a wooden frame is not available then you will have to do some drilling through the walls for reaching the wooden frame inside. Gates that are hardware mounted can be easily removed when not required.
For top of the stairs, hardware mounted gates are best suited. it swings open in one direction only for safety purpose. Some gates even have the option to let us choose the direction of swing to make the gate open.
