Child safety gates can be very helpful to contain your active child and to keep them safe from hazards, like stairs. There are different types of child gates available to suit your requirements and all of them are intended to be used only by children from 6 to 24 months and not older.

Based on the installation procedure adopted for child safety gates, it can be classified into two types. They are pressure mounted and hardware mounted. It is very essential for the parents to know about the benefits offered by both of these gates and choose the right one for their child.

Gates – Pressure Mounted

This type of child safety gates are held in place by pressure against walls or door frames. Typically, pressure mounted gates come with two sliding panels that can be adjusted to make the gate fit an opening and some kind of locking mechanism, like a pressure bar holds the gate in place without any hardware.

These types of gates usually have vertical slats made of aluminum, steel or wood with rails at the top and bottom.

The installation of these gates is very easy and simple and does not create any permanent holes as there is no drilling in the walls. All you need to do with the gate is slightly adjust it and press the locking device against the door frames or walls which will keep the gate in its place.

Pressure mounted child safety gates are suitable for places like between rooms that have floors at the same level or at the bottom of the stairs which are less hazardous. It is strongly advised not to use these gates on top of the stairs.

Hardware mounted gates

These gates are usually more permanent because they are fixed to a metal knob behind door frames or walls with the help of screws and brackets. A proper fixing of these gates offers the highest security in protecting your child from entering into any hazardous areas.

These gates are usually made using steel that is enamel-coated, aluminum or wooden vertical slates that has rails both at the bottom and on top.

The installation of these gates requires some ability of drilling holes to secure the gates in its place. If a wooden frame is not available then you will have to do some drilling through the walls for reaching the wooden frame inside. Gates that are hardware mounted can be easily removed when not required.

For top of the stairs, hardware mounted gates are best suited. it swings open in one direction only for safety purpose. Some gates even have the option to let us choose the direction of swing to make the gate open.

Child Day Care Tips

As many parents can attest to, it is not easy coaxing a child into daycare full time. One of the major deciding factors can be the way the people at the care place behave, so it is extremely necessary to pick the right one. The first option, and the best, is to choose a staff that includes people familiar to the child. Even if this isn’t a possibility, there are many other tools to picking a great place.

A child’s daycare is often determined through the recommendations of any acquaintances with children. Any constructive advice on the personalities of the staff and their competence should be taken into consideration by a parent. Each child and provider comes with their own foibles and quirks, so not everyone is going to give the same review to each caretaker – it is the provider that earns the harshest or most frequent negative criticism that should steer a parent away.

Daycare workers should always be licensed, and your Department of Social Services can supply you a list of the ones who are in your area. Part of a pediatrician’s job is to listen to the daily welfare concerns of their patients, and for that reason, many pediatricians will be able to give you good recommendations. Additional sources include the yellow book and classified newspaper ads. Any provider that passes the preview round should be thoroughly examined by both you and your child. Children can then meet their new caretaker and environment, and this will help them feel more at ease once they start attending.

Presuming the daycare allows it why not send the child’s favorite comfort material with them. This should help ease the sense of homesickness that many children feel during the first few weeks. Another tool parents use to help their child feel at ease is giving them a picture of home – usually of a family member – though parents should use caution because sometimes this only worsens the sense of loss that your child feels. If you can stay with the child for a while in the mornings, that is a great way to make him or her feel safe and secure in their new surroundings. If you give a time to your child that you will return and pick them up, make sure you are there on time. Many children are able to calm down and enjoy their daycare experience more if they know when you are going to be returning, and if you so consistently at the same time every day.

A huge mistake that many parents make is not being positive enough when they depart. If you want the child’s experience to be a positive one, then you have to send the message that they are going to be okay while they are at this new place. Most children will in fact cry as their parents leave, but similarly, most children will be okay enough to play less than twenty minutes later. When leaving, a simple good-bye is best, followed with a quick walk out the door away from the child’s wails, no matter how hard it may be, when returning, make your time with the child long and devoted.

Leash A Dog, Sit A Baby In A Stroller

When I watched the movie “Cheaper by the Dozen” starring Steve Martin and Bonnie Hunt years ago, there is one scene that was particularly stuck in my mind. After the family of fourteen”two parents and twelve children, hence the title”moved into a new neighborhood, several scenes were devoted to showing the new things that the kids needed to adjust to. It was then that the camera cuts across the street where a high-powered executive woman was running on heels and keeping a tight hold on a leash that was tied around the neck of a running child.

It was a very short yet arresting clip. It was hilarious yet borders on incredulous. The movie was meant to entertain people and that scene does just that, although I can’t help thinking about human rights activists and their take on this family-friendly film. Imagine tying leashes on your children! But I think everyone passed it off as a joke because in reality, parents use baby walkers and strollers and definitely not leashes.

Funny that the clip had made me reflect a bit, that I am very thankful that I wasn’t born a dog or that my mother and certainly most mothers I know would never do such a thing. We have to thank the geniuses behind baby strollers for making parents’ and guardians’ lives easier. Baby stroller make babysitting a lot easier to do.

Baby strollers have now become more helpful than we could have ever imagined. It enables parents to still become hands-on in caring for their children without sacrificing other important activities. They’ve been highly useful in keeping up with the demands of both parenting and the fast clock and multitasking trend of the modern world.

For example, everybody needs exercise and parents can now do that while watching over toddlers through jog-along baby strollers. Both parent and child will surely enjoy the exhilaration of running together. But if a dog is a jogger’s companion, either he will keep pulling at the leash to run the dog, or the dog will do the walking-slash-running. Both possibilities depend on the strength of the dog of course.

Baby strollers are now usually made to be convertible to car seats. A convenient and useful feature, it allows parents to keep their kids more secure while in a running car. It is also more ideal for kids rather than using seat belts. They are very helpful especially if the driving guardian is also the one minding the child. Now when dogs are riding in a car, unless if they get car sick and be immobile, it might be quite a job to ensure that they stay in place because you can’t really strap them with seat belts, can you?
