Learn How You Can Stretch Your Budget For Furniture.
Friday, June 18th, 2010Not everyone has a bottomless wallet, so learning to become a savvy shopper can make your wallet seem bottomless. Using tips and tricks to save money when making purchases and a little hard work can really pay off. There are many ways designers get around having to spend a lot of money on items for the home, and you can too. Things as simple as a fresh coat of paint and a repaired black dining room set can completely turn the room into something spectacular.
I learned how to save money from buying my dining room set, we had been seeking the perfect match for our home. When we came across this table and chair set the store only had the floor models. At the time we could not wait for them to order the table in for us. The damage from customers was certainly fixable and the price seemed well enough to fit into our budget. After fixing the table, you cannot even tell that it had minor damage to it.
It was a simple matter to sand down the furniture and buy matching stain and refinish the table and chairs. Perhaps the hardest part was trying to get the stain out of the table. You may be surprised to discover that many shopping outlets will consider negotiating a sale of display items when they no longer have the stock available. If the materials that make up the furniture seem sturdy enough you may be making a fantastic deal.
My son has recently grown out of the style of his bed and we had been on the look out for a new one. As we were walking through a local store, we had come across a lovely his and hers set of loft beds with desk attached. We immediately spoke with a sales representative. Both the beds were displaying the price for beds straight from the shipping box as both displays had minor damage.
There were no other stores that currently had that bed in stock so a manager was called to haggle with me over the sale of the display. Since the price was what they asked for in the catalog and the bed obviously had some minor damage, we came to a reasonable price and were able to obtain it for that price.
Depending on the stores policies regarding their floor models, you may find that sometimes you can get some good deals. Some are considerably more flexible than others and some do not allow it at all. A tiny bit of effort and you can have items as new as out of the box things. There is no harm in attempting to bargain, you may just get what you ask for.
The most important part should you get the deal is to ensure that when you are finishing the repair, you should get a stain that matches the original stain so closely that you cannot tell that it has been repaired. Getting the wrong stain will only make more work for you or make the piece look rather awkward. With the money that you save you could get some new bedding for the loft bed, I know I did.
If you want to try more advance projects, you may consider re-staining your kitchen cabinets or possibly your hard wood floors. For very large projects it is recommended that you use safety equipment such as a face mask so you do not inhale the sawdust. Smaller projects may include a dresser drawer or an end table. It can really save you quite a bit of cash.
