Why You Should Use Security Signs and Window Decals Around Your Home

Advertise that you have an alarm system. I have mentioned this before, but it is important enough to be repeated. Alarm systems work very well at keeping burglars away from your home.

Nobody wants to be threatened by criminals in their home. No one wants to be the target of a burglary. An alarm system helps to keep these types of situations from happening.

Why advertise, then, the security system? If the alarm system works so well in identifying break-ins, and the police are notified by your security company when the alarm goes off, why take the time to advertise it? What is the purpose if the security system will do just fine on its own?

The answer is you do not want a break-in from being attempted in the first place. You want to keep thieves from even trying to enter your home. Advertising that your home is protected will normally stop burglars from trying.

Home security companies actually issue security signs and window decals for this purpose. Decals and signs are an effective deterrent and do a great job of letting the community know that you have a security network set up in your home. Burglars usually stake out the neighborhoods they are thinking of breaking in to, and a sign posted in the front yard is an easy warning sign for them to look out for.

Burglars will easily pick homes that do not have security systems in place already. No criminal actually wants to get caught. Why try to burglarize a home with home protection when they can easily break in to a home that does not have a home security system?

Decals are very simple and easy to install. Little effort or time needs to be used to place decals and signs around your home. They also are low cost, since they are provided by your security company when you sign up with them.

Decals and signs need to be easy to spot. The point is for burglars to see them so they will avoid your home. Good spots to place them are on most room’s windows, and near your front and back doors.

When a gun is placed inside your home there are some safety precautions that need to be taken. Safety should be a priority in able to eliminate the chance of injury or death caused by the accidental or improper use

There are plenty of options in regards to storing your guns. It is important to keep your firearms stored and locked away so they can’t be reached. Find a storage unit that meets the approved guidelines and that is in the price range you are hoping for.

Always treat firearms as if they are loaded. Accidents often happen when people believe a gun is unloaded when it is actually loaded. A good rule of thumb is to treat a gun carefully even when you are sure it isn’t loaded.

Don’t pull the trigger on firearms. Again, always assume the firearm is loaded. Never point the muzzle toward anyone and always place the safety latch on.

Disassemble your gun before you store it. If you are able to keep the parts separated there will be less chance of a gun being loaded and shot because they will have to piece the gun together. Ammunition can also be stored in a separate location for this same reason.

Put a lock on the gun. Gun locks can’t be fired while the lock is secured around the trigger guard. They usually permanently damage the firearm if forcefully removed, making the firearm unusable.

Locks are not meant to be used as the only safety precaution. While locks make it harder to fire, there are many times when a gun can still be loaded with the lock in place. Sometimes the gun can even be shot even with the trigger lock in place.

While these are all good security measures, the most important safety tip we can offer is to educate your children how to properly handle a gun. If a child is properly taught to keep a firearm out of their hands they are more likely to handle a gun cautiously than one who isn’t taught any form of gun safety. They should be taught to never use a firearm without close supervision and permission from you, and only after they are properly trained.

The Perks of Motion Detectors

No matter where you live or your circumstances, a home security system is a great investment for any home. There are different products that are available to monitor your home. Motion detectors are a great resource security companies use to monitor the safety of your home and property.

Motion detectors, or sensors, work great with home security systems. They are good because they are non-invasive and are safe. They also work great on their own apart from the security system, especially for lighting purposes.

Motion sensors work by using an electronic chip that sends out infrared signals. The chips sends out a signal with its infrared light and monitors the temperature. If the temperature changes because something warm passes by it, the sensor gives off energy and the alarm or lighting turns on.

Motion detectors can work as an alarm. When someone moves in your home, the motion sensor’s alarm will go off. It can be controlled by the homeowner to prevent false alarms from happening, such as the movement of a family pet.

Motion sensors can be placed through out your home. They should be placed at all possible entrances of your home. Some great places to put them are bedroom windows, skylights, garage doors, and front and back doors.

Motion detectors can also be used with lighting. Motion sensor lights are helpful when lighting up dark places of your property. Some places that people like to use motion lighting are basements, porches, driveways and attics.

Motion sensors are a great investment for homeowners in more ways than just security. Motion lighting runs on a time delay, so you don’t have to worry about turning on and off lights. They turn off on their own and can save you a lot on electricity.

The security of your home can work great by using both of these types of motion sensors. Having a good light source outside your home can scare away intruders, and motion sensor alarms in your home can quickly alert personnel that there was a break-in. Both do a good job keeping your home a safer place.

Landscape Security

Saturday, February 13th, 2010

What are things you can do to make your home less appealing to burglars? Most people understand the need for a security alarm. But what other measures can you do to add to the safety of your home?

Surprisingly, the way you landscape your lawn plays a role in whether your home looks like a target to criminals. A home that has a clear view from the street into the accesses of the home are a lot less likely to be broken in to than those that have a lot of bushes and trees to hide behind. Here are some ideas of ways you can keep the landscaping of your home more secure.

A tree is a great asset to a thief, since they like to use trees as make-shift ladders. Don’t place trees too close to your home, especially if you have an upper story. If you do have trees close to your home already, make sure they are well trimmed so thieves would easily be spotted if they to try to use the tree.

A lawn that is not kept up will be similar to a flashing light to a burglar. They will easily zone in on the fact that you are away and take advantage of it. If you are going away on vacation, have a friend mow your lawn.

Most security professionals will agree that brushes and shrubs, especially those close to your home, should not be allowed to grow higher than 2-3 feet. While larger bushes are beautiful to look at, thieves use these high bushes to hide behind so your neighbors won’t be able to spot them. Trim all brushes and shrubs.

If you do like bushes consider planting thorny bushes. These types of bushes are not fun for family members, but if your little kids are grown up and away they can be a helpful deterrent. No thief enjoys hiding in rose shrubs.

Keep your home easily viewed by neighbors and those passing by. Don’t close off your home with a line of trees. This may be a beautiful way of gaining privacy, but thieves often take advantages of homes like this because neighbors can’t see them breaking in to your home.

While the majority of thieves do choose to break in to homes during the day, outdoor lighting is another effective deterrent against your home getting broken into. Motion lighting can be helpful since motion triggers the light to go off any time something goes by it. This helps with your electricity bills, and also alerts those inside that something is outside near their home so they can check on it.

Home Safety on a Budget

In these hard economic times it can be hard to know where to place your money. Even with a small budget, however, there are still a lot of things you can do to enhance the security of your home. There are many basic, and often free, home security measures you can take to keep your home safe.

Don’t let your budget stop you from protecting your home. There are many inexpensive things you can do now to add to the level of security of your home. Here are a few suggestions you can do for home security on a budget.

1. Make a habit to lock your doors and windows. Don’t forget to check your doors and windows every time you leave your home. Even the most expensive, secure locks are going to be useless if you forget to lock your doors.

2. Make it a priority to keep your yard under control. Trim your shrubs, bushes and trees. Burglars use these items to hide behind so that they can’t be seen for people passing by.

Turn on the lights. Having good outdoor lighting during the night can be a great deterrent for burglars. Burglars don’t want to be seen breaking in to your home.

4. Don’t leave your items out. Thieves like to use tool sheds and garages to find tools to help them break in to your home. Keep your items put away and locked up.

5. Don’t forget to lock your garage too. Thieves are opportunist. Even if your home is well protected, thieves can still gain access to your garage and steal things from there.

Look in to getting a simple alarm system. Most alarm systems are made to be very affordable, even for people on a budget. They can be a great asset for the protection of your home, possessions, and family.

The Importance of a Good Lock

Monday, January 18th, 2010

The right lock can be a great asset to protecting your home. There are a lot of different types of burglars out there. Regardless of the specific type of burglar that may try to invade your home, a good lock can deter professional thieves and stop others in their track.

Most burglaries happen either because entrance wasn’t locked or the lock was flimsy enough that the burglar was able to force their way inside. Even the most sturdy of locks can be kicked in if they are not installed properly. Take the time to make sure that your doors and windows have sturdy, and properly installed locks.

Deadbolts are the best locks for your home. They should be installed at least three inches in to your door. They also should be placed in solid, sturdy wood or metal doors.

If you notice you don’t have the most sturdy lock, there are some steps you can take to rectify the situation. You can replace the lock with a newer model, or strengthen it to help the performance of your lock. If you notice a flimsy lock in your door you can replace the metal plate that is mounted in the door jam.

If you would like to update your present lock you can also replace the mounting screws of your lock. Exchange the tiny screws with deeper ones. Screws that are at least 3 inches long will provide more resistance if someone were trying to kick in your door.

Professional thieves have more advanced equipment than simply using their leg to kick down a door. They use special equipment to undo the bolts of your door and use special tools to pick your lock. So you may be wondering, are there locks that work best against professional thieves?

Professional thieves try to outwit the system. They bank on technology, cordless drills and lock picking skills to gain entry inside homes. Electronic locks have proven to be just about as effective as normal deadbolt locks, and normal locks are much more affordable.

For this reason, it is important to do more for your home security than simply fortifying the locks of your home. Take extra security measures for the protection of your home. Having a working, well monitored security alarm system will add to the safety of your home.

Nighttime vs Daytime Burglaries

Friday, January 1st, 2010
http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/digg_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/reddit_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/stumbleupon_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/delicious_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/furl_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/technorati_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/magnolia_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/google_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/myspace_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/facebook_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/yahoobuzz_48.png

Burglaries can happen at any time of day. But what time is a burglar more likely to strike? Day or night?

The answer to this question may surprise some people. When we pictures a burglar we normally think of a person dressed all in black lurking in the darkness. But the truth is, the majority of break-ins happen during the day.

Burglars aren’t as noticed during the daytime. At night, when they are breaking in to someone’s home, they can easily be spotted because of outdoor lighting. During the day time when someone is opening a window to creep inside it won’t draw as much attention as it would if they were doing it during the night.

This is the reason why outside lighting can be such a good security measure. Criminals don’t want to be spotted trying to sneak inside your home. Outside lighting around your home allows others to see anyone prowling around your home and makes it impossible for a criminal to really hide.

Most crimes happen during the hours of 7 and 10 in the morning. Most burglars will wait outside your home until you leave for work or school. They want to be sure that they are alone when they break in to the home.

Many people feel that the reason so many daytime burglaries happen is because daytime offers the most opportunity. Avoid daytime burglaries by making sure that your doors and windows are always locked, even while you are home. Be sure to close your curtains and draperies so a thief won’t see something they think is worth stealing.

While daytime break-ins happen more often, there are still a high amount of night time burglaries. Some thieves prefer the night because they can use the darkness to hide themselves. These types of thieves normally try to find homes that aren’t well secured and don’t have outdoor lighting.

All research has come to the same conclusion. Burglary can happen at any time. Turn on your alarm system and remember to continue to keep to basic security measures at all times of the day.

Choosing the Right Alarm Systems

Monday, December 28th, 2009
http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/digg_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/reddit_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/stumbleupon_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/delicious_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/furl_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/technorati_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/magnolia_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/google_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/myspace_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/facebook_48.png http://parenting.guruz-blog.com/wp-content/plugins/sociofluid/images/yahoobuzz_48.png

There are a lot of security systems to choose from. It can be hard to know which security systems suits your needs best. It is important that you find one that will both protect your home and be easy for you to manage.

Many security systems are very affordable, even for people on a budget. Many people are afraid to look in to security systems because of budget constraints. They feel that they wouldn’t be able to afford a good system.

Burglars go for homes that look insecure. They look for homes that are easy targets. Homes that have no security system in place are much more likely to be broken in to then those that do.

It is now, more than ever, necessary for security companies to have affordable alarm systems, especially during these economic times. Using an alarm system can be an inexpensive security option for your home. There is no better time to get alarm systems than right now.

Take the time to consider your options. What security companies do your friends use? Do they have any suggestions or referrals for you to look in to?

Compare security companies. See how much their alarm systems cost and what their systems entail. By shopping around you will be able to find a company that best fits your security needs and which ones you can afford.

Find a company that is well established in the area. Look for security companies that provide monitoring 24 hours a day. Find a company that is continuing to advance with the times, such as using wireless systems instead of wired systems.

The most important thing to remember when choosing the right security system is that you are doing this to protect your home and family. You don’t need to buy the most expensive security systems, but you should be able to find a very affordable alarm system that will still alert your security company or other emergency personnel immediately if it is triggered. Having a simple security system can still be a great and effective way of keeping burglars away from your home.
