All kids love cartoons, and my cute, adorable, and sweet little kids are no exceptions. I must admit I love cartoons, too. Even if we have different tastes, we spend most of our evenings watching cartoons. They love “The PowerPuff Girls”, while I’m crazy about “Dexter’s Laboratory”, so we might argue sometimes, but all arguments end with a kiss and a new cartoon.

I have tried to share with them my all-time passion for Disney cartoons, but after a few attempts I had to give it up. They fancy watching Cartoon Network more than watching Sleeping Beauty, so they convinced me to watch TV with them, even if I’m still in love with my classic Disney cartoons.

No wonder they complain of getting bored any time we get on holidays and they miss their favorite TV shows. Lately they have asked for some small gadget which could play their cartoons for them when they’re on a trip, or even during breaks, at school. I didn’t agree at first, but they know how to be very convincing, so I finished by looking up for some good mp3 player with video features.

I have checked all the models, and I finally decided that the sansa view 8gb mp3 is the best option. It is so easy to use, that any kid could do it, so I bought one for each of my girls. I loaded them up with all their favorite cartoons, and I made them a great surprise. When they unwrapped the presents, opened the boxes, and saw their new players, they were overjoyed.

Now, they take their new “toys” everywhere with them. They have learnt quite easily how to load cartoons and music on their players, and they watch them on every trip, and even on breaks, at school. And I can watch my beloved Disney movies without any arguments, any time I want.

The PDA originated in United Kingdom with Psion in 1984. This launched the defining of a new genre in handheld computer. Soon companies such as Palm Computing and Apple joined launching their versions. Palm Pilot became the most well known PDA in the later part of 1990s. Games, word processors, web browsing and graphics were incorporated.

The Personal Information Manager applications usually included in the PDAs at the beginning were diary, address and phone book, a notebook, handwriting recognition software, some games and common reference material. Diary/scheduler, Notepad, To-do list, Finance software, Drawing application, Organizer, Calculator, World time, Alarms, Voice recorder, File manager, Printer connection and Data synchronization were added to it later. With the inclusion of wireless connections, the Email as well as the web browser was incorporated into it. The programs that followed were Word processor, Custom dictionary, Spell checker and Spreadsheet. Inclusion of Global Positioning System (GPS) made possible customized maps and directions, and charting the movement as well as planning of trips whether by land, sea or air. The mode of transport did not matter. The journey could be detailed with the starting point and the destination with Palmtop Software’s Route Planner application. All it required was pointing and just clicking on a map indicating the places that are intended to be visited, or even avoided, to get an exact route map. With a few clicks with your fingers you had a route map ready with the travel plan. Its functions expanded with the addition of the popular Microsoft applications as Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

The PDAs available in the market included HP iPAQ hw6515, HP iPAQ hw6900 Mobile Messenger, Palm TX, HP iPAQ h6315, Dell Axim X51v, Palm Tungsten E2, HP iPAQ Pocket PC 2215, RIM BlackBerry Curve (8300), HTC Advantage X7501, Apple iPhone, Palm Treo 755p and many more.

The PDA application soon spread to other areas of life including shopping, mobile banking, and specialized Internet services as stock quotes, foreign exchange rates, weather, sports scores and maps. The PDA became an e-book reader, a photo wallet, a mobile web browser and an alarm clock besides many others. Convergence of technologies and programs has made PDAs smaller, compact and versatile encompassing almost all aspects of living.

People are already living comfortable and trouble-free lives because of technology. These devices made man achieve more in life.

The popularity of portable gadgets is sky rocketing. Wireless Internet access (WiFi) has increased its area of coverage. The portable gadgets are becoming even handier with this development. Portable gadgets include portable media players, laptops, the Ultra Mobile PC or netbooks. Contents can now be easily downloaded from the Internet. VCD or DVD movies, for instance, can be easily converted into digital formats with special software. Portable devices have become a part of work and lifestyle, and a personal travel companion. Portable devices include portable video players, digital audio players, personal digital assistant and digital video recorders.

A portable media player (PMP) is an electronic device that can store and play digital media. It is a digital audio player that can also display images as well as play videos. Cell phones which have these capabilities are also called portable media player. The first widely sold portable media player was Archos in 2002. Almost all portable media players come with MP3 audio format while some also support the Windows Media Audio (WMA), WAV and Advanced Audio Coding (AAC).

OELD or LCD is usually used to display images. With the help of accessories, some of these players can also record video. JPEG format for display of images is used in all the players. File formats including PNG, TIFF and GIF are compatible with some players like the iPod series. MPEG-4 video format is supported by most of the players. Some others support the AVI and Windows Media Video (WMV). Transfer of files between the computer and players is possible with most players. These portable devices are manufactured and marketed by many electronic firms. For instance a French company, Archos, offers portable video players, digital audio players, personal digital assistant and digital video recorders. Archos released its Generation 5 series of portable media players in 2007. The series included Archos 705 WiFi 160GB.

The hard drive, flash memory or microdrive stores the data. Storage capacities have reached 32 GB for flash memory based PMPs and 320 GB for the hard drive PMPs. The PMPs storage capacity can be expanded and contents can be directly transferred from external devices with memory Sticks, Secure Digital card and CompactFlash. This provision is available in a number of players. The size of the screen ranges up to 7 inches. Resolutions too vary and go up to WVGA. The color depth is 16-bit but could reach 24-bit in some players. Touch screens are introduced and PMPs are increasingly coming out with this feature. Other features that have been introduced in recent years are a simple camera, text readers, editors and game emulation.

Media players have evolved. Before, watching movies was done at theaters or at home but PMPs have greatly changed this situation.
